A TENS unit is a small and portable device that delivers electric pulses through the skin to help block nerve signals. It works on the principle that nerves can only send so much response information to the brain, so by causing a local system overload, you can effectively turn off your pain.

ECKO TENS is commonly used to treat a variety of pain, including chronic muscle, joint, and post-op pain. ECKO TENS is also used to treat pain caused by conditions like arthritis and fibromyalgia.

Yes, when used in a manner following manufacturer instructions. TENS units are safe and effective at treating pain. However, since the device uses electrical signals, it should not be used in certain areas of the body where it may interfere with your body’s natural electric signals. Places you should NEVER use a TENS unit include:

  • The front or side of the neck
  • Temples
  • Around the mouth or eyes
  • Your chest and upper Back in concurrence
  • On damaged or infected skin
  • Areas of the body already experiencing numbness
  • Varicose veins

 

Always start the TENS unit on a low setting and work up to appropriate levels to avoid rapid contraction responses, which may aggravate the pain you’re treating.

Patients with pacemakers or other electrical implants, metal implants, epilepsy, or overactive bladders should consult a doctor before use.

Pregnant women should consult a doctor before using a TENS unit

Each ECKO TENS unit session lasts 15-45 minutes. You can use the ECKO TENS unit several times a day, depending on your individual pain relief needs and the advice of your primary care provider.

Side effects from using TENS Units are rare. These tend to be related to skin irritation from the electrode pads or discomfort from using the unit on too high a power setting.

TENS units, including the ECKO TENS, can be used with other pain relief treatments, including pain medicine. As always, consult your physician before mixing multiple pain relief regimens.

It is not recommended to use the unit while sleeping. The electrode pads may come loose and cause skin irritation or burns. You can use the unit just before going to bed to help you get to sleep with less pain.
